[Her eyes star welling up with tears. This all, despite how small, is enough to make her cry. She's never really had a friend throw her a birthday party before, even if Yukio did give her a present last year.]

R-Rin! Thank you so much, this is- [Sob.]

-Wha?! What're you crying for?! [And he goes in towards her, a little panicky despite himself]

[The water works begin to slow, and she tries to rub the tears out of her eyes with her hands.

Skarmy, in the background, tilts her head quizzically.]

So... so yeah! It's your birthday, we got cake and presents and-- and right. Skarmy! We better sing now!

[As he goes to point at he metal bird before breaking into the Happy Birthday song. Even if the bird doesn't]

[Singing!? This is so cool! Her eyes sparkle with wonder, even if her Pokémon is squawking obnoxiously trying to imitate Rin.]

[At least she's trying, he was half afraid that she would be uncooperative. So the singing goes smoothly, if a bit off key.]

[When the singing ends Shiemi takes a deep breath. So deep that when she holds it her cheeks puff up with air. Soon she'll blow out her candles-!

But before she can Skarmy flaps her wings, and the candles blow out.]

Whaaaaat-?! Skarmy?! Come on!

[No, he even half-leaps over towards the bird]

[Skarmy hustles her way out of the kitchen away from Rin while Shiemi laughs mirthfully.]

Bird! [BAAAAH! But then he gives up and sighs] Ugh, she's causing problems.

It's okay, Rin. Skarmy just wanted to help.

Can we cut the cake now?

Of course! This is what it's here for, after all. [They should probably allow for Izumo too, but maybe the bird's getting her. Anyway he turns to pick up a knife, swinging it in an unnecessary show off in his hand before hanging it over to her]

[Shiemi hesitates. She didn't expect she would be the one cutting. Her hands retract, and timidly rest up by her chest. She's a little afraid to take it.]

[The girl smiles nervously as her fingers grip the fabric of her shirt to give her a sense of stability. Shiemi nods.]

I don't want to drop it. [And ruin the cake, or worse hurt somebody. Maybe some other time.]

Alright, you got it! [And-] How big of piece do you want? [And he then goes to motion with the knife to demonstrate various sizes]

Ah... that much! [She'll take the biggest one you're offering, Rin.]

[And there we go. Big piece cut! He totally should have seen that coming. He takes two more, smaller, pieces out for him and Izumo - and then as an afterthought one more for Skarmy just in case.

...Should he do one more for Midori?

[Skarmy peeks her head in the door as Shiemi happily takes her large piece with a smile. With a finger the girl swipes up some of the icing, and puts it in her mouth.]

But he recovers and laughs it off]

Ahahah, yeah! I mean, it's your birthday so... of course!
