She scrambles to get away and ends up running through the village a little before slipping and having a giant fall. This fall knocks her journal open. Not as far as we know. And some people have been trapped here for years, so I'm sure people have already looked all over by now.

Well, if the people here are right, you should be transported back to exactly that moment to continue fighting with your friends once the Malnosso decide to let you go. So I wouldn't worry too much about that, at least.
